The verdict

The AO Smith Z9 is an 8-stage RO plus silver-charged purifier with mineralised hot water at 45°C and 80°C from a steel tank, for about ₹24,700. It has no app and only a 1-year comprehensive warranty, so it suits buyers who want hot water and a known brand but not smart features.

Best for

  • Buyers who want hot water and warm water from a trusted RO brand and do not need an app
  • Borewell or mixed-source water up to 2,000 TDS

Skip it if

  • You want app monitoring of TDS and filter health
  • You want more than a 1-year comprehensive warranty

What we like

  • 8-stage RO with Silver Charged Membrane Technology, rated for up to 2,000 TDS, about 95% TDS reduction and more than 55% recovery
  • Mineralised hot water at 45°C (warm) and 80°C (hot) from a 0.8 L stainless-steel tank, alongside a 9.2 L purified tank
  • Advance Alert Technology signals when filters or the RO membrane need replacing
  • Works with borewell, mixed and tanker water; wall-mount or table-top

What we don’t

  • No app or smart connectivity: the Z9 only gives on-unit alerts
  • Only 1-year comprehensive warranty plus a 1-year RO membrane warranty (TDS under 2,000 ppm and hardness under 400 ppm)
  • Flow is up to 15 L/hour, the slowest rate in this comparison, and the hot tank is only 0.8 L
  • Official page lists a digital display; the Flipkart listing mentions only a cartridge life indicator
  • Replacement filter and membrane prices are not published on the page

How we tested

We compare premium purifiers on the same checklist: purification and input-water limits, hot water, mineral control, what the sensors measure, how good the app is, warranty and service, and price. Specs here come from AO Smith India and retailer listings; our measurements are being added.

Purification and hot water

Eight stages with a side-stream RO membrane and a silver-charged post filter, rated for up to 2,000 TDS. The mineraliser adds minerals back. Hot water comes at two settings, 45°C and 80°C, from a 0.8 L stainless-steel tank, so it suits a few cups at a time rather than constant use.

What it lacks: any app

The Z9 has no app and no Wi-Fi. Its Advance Alert Technology only signals when the filters or membrane are due, which is a usage-based reminder. It does not show TDS, so you cannot see how well it is working without a handheld meter. That is simpler, but it is not “smart”.

Warranty and service

One year comprehensive plus a one-year membrane warranty under TDS and hardness limits. That is the shortest warranty here next to Eureka Forbes. Service is on-site by registration.

Should you buy it?

Buy it if you want warm and hot mineralised water from an established RO brand and can live without an app. If you want monitoring and a longer warranty, choose the Boon Homie Pro or Urban Company.
